Hidcote House

Covering 10.5 acres, Hidcote is made up of a series of smaller garden rooms and outdoor spaces. No single viewpoint reveals the whole garden, and there is no fixed route to follow. Instead, visitors are encouraged to explore, discovering new views around every corner and through each hedged archway.

In 1948 Lawrence Johnston gifted Hidcote, now a Grade I listed garden, to the National Trust, becoming the first garden-only property in the Trust’s care. Today, Hidcote’s garden team work hard to maintain this balance between structure and natural beauty, preserving what Vita Sackville-West described as “a jungle of beauty ... always kept in bounds”.
